The “Vicentes” Photography Museum celebrates in 2012 that it opened its doors to the public 30 years ago, more specifically on March 22nd 1982. It was purchased by the Regional Government of Madeira on June 13th 1979 and was opened to the public in 1982 as a museological space, after it had undergone some changes. It received its name due to the fact that the Museum is located in the former photo studio dated from the XIX Century and founded by Vicente Gomes da Silva Sénior (1827 – 1906) and which thereafter belonged to four generations of the same family, who have always dedicated themselves to the art of photography.
The Museum is located at Rua da Carreira, 43 – 1.º and it is open Monday to Friday 10.00h to 12.30h and 14.00h to 17.00h
You can also purchase old photographs of the Island there.
